This Tax Day, #DemandARefund Dear Nick, Last Wednesday, President Obama released his 2014 budget request, which includes $3.1 billion in military aid for Israel, plus $316 million for joint U.S.-Israeli anti-missile systems. This level of support for Israel’s human rights abuses of Palestinians is bad enough. Unfortunately though it’s just the tip of the iceberg of what Obama is planning as his legacy of largesse for Israel. Last month in Jerusalem, Obama pledged to extend U.S. military aid to Israel well beyond his presidency, with one report noting that his administration is opening negotiations to give Israel up to $40 billion in U.S. taxpayer-financed weapons through 2028! [1] Join us and US Campaign member groups theAmerican-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee,American Muslims for Palestine, Code Pink, andJewish Voice for Peace in opposing President Obama’s plan to give Israel $40 billion more of U.S. taxpayer money for weapons to oppress Palestinians. This plan is even more outrageous now that the effects of the sequestration are denying cancer-fighting drugs to Medicare patients and Obama is proposing to cut Social Security. How is it possible that we supposedly don’t have money to take care of our senior citizens, but we do have ever-increasing amounts of money to give Israel for weapons? We couldn’t help noticing that tonight begins Israel’s celebration of its independence. After 65 years, we believe it’s time for Israel to stop being dependent on the U.S. taxpayer to implement its apartheid policies toward Palestinians.
